Maisie Trollette, the Brighton drag performer who died earlier this month, captivated audiences for decades. And this reportedly included Diana, Princess of Wales. David Raven, better known by his stage name, had been performing for over five decades and and laid claim to the title of Britain's oldest working drag artiste.
He died aged 91 in Brighton on Wednesday, March 12 . Last year in an interview with Gscene, David spoke of the occasion when Diana came to watch him and Jimmy - who together performed as The Trollettes - in London. Diana was a close friend of many trailblazing rock stars in the 80s, including Elton John and the late Freddie Mercury, the legendary lead singer of the band Queen.
David and Jimmy had been performing in London when Princess Diana and Freddie Mercury are said to have made an appearance at the iconic cabaret club, The Royal Vauxhall Tavern. David explained in the interview that the stars were known to be in the audience but they were ignored, David said in 2024: "It was a very relaxed environment, this was their night off to let their hair down." Several reports refer to the time Diana dressed in disguise to visit the London gay club in 1988.
