Beach hut owners in Hove have expressed frustration after their huts have once again been targeted by thieves. Yesterday morning (Thursday, March 13), several owners reported break-ins, leaving them frustrated and disheartened. Their huts, most of which are typically filled with deck chairs, beach toys, and small personal items, had been broken into.
Doors were bashed in, or knocked off their hinges entirely. Residents say the huts do not hold anything of value. (Image: Newsquest) Despite the lack of valuables inside, the damage to the huts and the intrusion of privacy has left owners feeling unsettled.
A number of members from Hove Beach Hut Association have been trying to understand the motivations behind the break ins. "I’m not sure what they expect to find.
" This incident is in stark contrast to last week, when film crews turned Hove promenade into a film set. It is believed they were filming an advert. This is not the first instance of criminals targeting the seafront beach huts.
In June 2021, beach hut owners were blighted by vandals who sprayed graffiti on their front doors.
