The Vernon Vipers' second-last game of their BC Hockey League season was a lopsided one. The visiting Trail Smoke Eaters cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Vipers at Kal Tire Place Friday, March 28. Trail more than doubled the Snakes on the shot clock, putting 41 pucks on Vipers goalie Logan Cunningham.

Goals from Finn De St. Hubert, Dylan Lariviere and Josh Evaschesen gave the Smokies a 3-0 lead after the first period. Jason Stefanek scored his 31st goal of the season late in the third period to make it 4-0 Trail.

The Smoke Eaters then scored four goals in 10 minutes in the third period. The first was the second goal of the game from Evaschesen, the second a power-play goal and second on the night for Stefanenk, followed by a short-handed goal and second of the game from Lariviere, and finally the first BCHL goal for Cohen Carter. With one game to go in the season, the Vipers have long been out of the playoff picture and have a record of 15-32-6-0.

Trail (35-14-3-1) will finish the season third in the Interior Conference standings and is set to face the sixth-place Cranbrook Bucks in the first round of the playoffs. The Vipers have a chance to end their season on a strong note when they take on the Bucks at home on Saturday, March 29, at 6 p.m.
