LINCOLN — An epic seventh inning blew away a narrow Nebraska late deficit and catapulted the Huskers to their first series victory against a top-five baseball opponent in more than a decade. NU beat fifth-ranked Oregon State 16-7 on a Sunday cold in weather but sizzling with offense. Will Jesske and Max Buettenback each delivered three-run homers while Ty Stone also drove in three as Big Red completed its first winning weekend of the season in loud and unlikely fashion.

The Huskers (12-15) trailed by a run with two outs and nobody on in the seventh inning. Then 11 straight batters reached to complete a comeback sure to breathe life into what had been a sagging triple-digit RPI for the team midway through the spring. Like Friday’s upset win, Nebraska played from ahead early thanks to a Ty Stone blast.

The senior mashed a flat breaking pitch 399 feet onto the grass past right-center field to lead off the second inning. Oregon State matched the run in the third when nine-hole hitter AJ Singer doubled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and sprinted home on a wild pitch. NU retook the lead in the bottom half when Riley Silva reached on a bunt single and came around on a hit-and-run play when Case Sanderson guided an 0-2 fastball the opposite way to left field.

An action-packed fourth inning followed. A two-run Beavers rally began with a Gavin Turley homer — his fifth of the weekend on a majestic blast to left barely kept fair by wind — and ended with a Singer RBI single. NU rel.
