Michigan’s State’s second-leading scorer from this season won’t be returning for his senior year. Forward Karsen Dorwart inked a two-year entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, the team announced. He will report directly to the NHL club and will carry a cap hit of $975,000 over two seasons.

twitter.com/blv1X11X9A Because Dorwart wasn’t drafted, he was free to sign with any team. The Flyers are 30-36-9 and out of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder’s first opportunity to make his NHL debut will be Monday at home against Nashville. Dorwart centered the Spartans’ second line for most of this season and finished second on the team with 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists). He had a goal and an assist is Thursday’s 4-3 season-ending loss to Cornell.

The Spartans were the No. 2 overall seed but were upset in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament by the Big Red, which scored two goals in the third, including the game-winner with 10 seconds remaining.
