AWAY-DAY specialists North Wales Crusaders have done it again! The start to the League One season could not have been any tougher for Carl Forster’s side with three away matches on the bounce. However, Cru have shown they’re the real deal this season and the stunning 16-14 triumph against Workington Town extended North Wales’ 100 per cent winning start. Workington looked to be in the box seat after claiming 14 points towards the end of the first half, but Crusaders didn’t concede another point after this and Jordy Gibson’s late try, plus Jamie Dallimore’s conversion, sealed a brilliant comeback success.

Head coach Forster said this away day was likely to be Crusaders’ toughest test all season, but they began the match in determined fashion and a great defensive effort in the first minute forced a Workington error. Just a minute after this and the visitors had the lead. The ball was passed out wide and Cole Oakley gave his side the ideal opening with an unconverted try in the corner.

Crusaders continued to harass their opponents and their pressure saw them win further penalties due to offside and a high tackle. The final 10 minutes of the first half belonged to Workington, though, and they turned things around to take a healthy advantage into the interval. They grabbed their first points in the 32nd minute as Jake Carter scored and he duly added the extras to his own try.

That gave the hosts the lead, which they extended three minutes later with Jack Stephenson.
