A fashion boutique is shutting. H&D Handbags and Gladrags has been on Wolstanton High Street for the past 14 years after being opened by mother-and-daughter Hayley and Penny Cowen. But the shop is shutting for good at the end of this month.

In a social media post to customers, the shop stated: "With tears in my eyes, I have to share this with you. After so many years of love and dedication to my little boutique in Wolstanton I have had to throw the towel in. I am fighting a losing battle against the giants and the influencers that get paid massive amounts of money to promote.

"People are working harder and longer hours these days to just cover their bills. Time is precious and getting time to come out to the shops has got less and less. The world is changing - and not for the better.

"I will be closing at the end of March and after 14 years it has been a pleasure to meet you all and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please call in and grab yourself a bargain." Get daily headlines and breaking news emailed to you - it’s FREE.
