Inception and evolution The concept of BBJ originated from a collaboration between Boeing's then-president, Phil Condit, and General Electric's Chairman and CEO, Jack Welch. Their vision was to create a long-range business jet based on the Boeing 737-700 platform.

The first BBJ (later renamed the BBJ1) was first designed in 1996 as a high-performance derivative of the Boeing 737 Next Generation by Borge Boeskov, who became the first president of the Boeing Business Jets department. This collaboration led to the rollout of the first 737 BBJ on July 26, 1998, with its maiden flight following on September 4, 1998. Over the years, the BBJ lineup has expanded to include variants based on other Boeing models, such as the 737-800 (BBJ2) and 737-900ER (BBJ3).

These iterations offer increased cabin space and extended range, catering to diverse client needs. Ho.
