The Lufthansa Group and airBaltic relationship has expanded significantly over recent months. In September, the two parties announced they would be growing their wet lease partnership, with the Latvian carrier providing up to 21 Airbus A220 aircraft to Lufthansa Group airlines for the summer 2025 season. The Airbus A220-300s, configured with just under 150 seats, are an excellent intermediate between a regional turboprop and a larger narrowbody jet.
They allow Lufthansa Group airlines to service thinner routes with lower demand without compromising on load factors. The 21 Airbus A220s represent a significant portion of the airBaltic fleet. In fact, according to ch-aviation , the airline has 38 active Airbus A220s and 12 inactive.
In other words, the proportion of planes that Lufthansa is taking on is more than half of airBaltic's active fleet. Schedules have now been loaded , and with the help of aviation analytics firm Cirium , we examine the route maps of the A220s under the respective Lufthansa Group carriers. Lufthansa Lufthansa will deploy its share of Airbus A220s exclusively from Munich.
Looking at the schedule for August 2025, the airline's Munich to Billund service will have the most amount of flights, being deployed double daily. This is the only destination operating more than once per day - although Munich to Gothenburg will have twice-daily flights on four days in August. Meanwhile, the routes that will get daily A220 flights include: Barcelona Bilbao Edinburgh H.
