Wednesday, January 22, 2025 Travelers from the UK to Spain have been advised to stay informed of important changes to Spain’s entry requirements, as these could significantly impact holiday plans beginning in 2025. The Foreign Office has issued guidance for British holidaymakers, alerting them to the new entry and exit protocols set to take effect later in the year. Changes to the EU Entry/Exit System and Border Control Process The European Union’s new Entry/Exit System, which had previously been postponed in November, is now expected to be rolled out later in 2025.
This new automated system is designed to streamline the immigration process, but it will bring notable changes for travelers entering Spain. Rather than the traditional manual passport stamping by border officials, travelers will be required to scan their passports at self-service kiosks. These kiosks will capture biometric data such as fingerprints and facial images in addition to recording details like the traveler’s name, travel document type, and entry and exit dates.
The implementation of this automated system has been delayed, and as of now, there is no confirmed start date for its introduction, but the changes are anticipated for 2025. Until then, travelers will continue to experience the manual process of having their passports stamped upon entry and departure from Spain. Documentation and Evidence of Entry Requirements In addition to the new border control procedures, there are specific entry condit.
