Wednesday, June 12, 2024 From July 12 to August 9, 2024, DIRK BRAUN Gallery proudly presents a new exhibit featuring the captivating work of Tahiti-based photographer Ben Thouard. This exhibition aligns with the historic moment of surfing making its Olympic debut at the iconic big wave location, Teahupo’o. Renowned for his stunning underwater surf photography, Ben Thouard’s exhibit will showcase large, limited edition prints capturing the beauty and power of Teahupo’o and other breathtaking surf spots.
Born in Toulon, in the picturesque south of France, Ben’s love for the sea was nurtured from a young age. Growing up in a family of six, his older brothers introduced him to surfing, sparking a passion that would shape his life. Surfing quickly became more than a hobby—it became a way of life.
Living in Tahiti since 2008, Ben honed his surfing skills and discovered a talent for art, attending painting classes where the ocean and its dynamic waves became his primary subjects. This dual passion for surfing and art has profoundly influenced Ben’s journey and professional career as an oceanic underwater surf photographer. DIRK BRAUN Gallery will host an opening party on Friday, July 12, from 5-8 pm, featuring a screening of “END OF THE ROAD,” Braun’s latest film project in collaboration with Ben Thouard.
The film offers a behind-the-scenes look at Thouard’s daring dives beneath towering waves, capturing both the breathtaking beauty of his photographs and the sup.
