A Super Bowl commercial has, uh, tongued its way into the collective unconscious. On Feb. 9, during , various brands vied for the glued to television screens — and seems to have really stuck out in people’s minds, for better or for worse.
In the ad, a man sprays Coffee Mate Cold Foam into a mug and gives it a taste, seemingly slipping into a pop country state of nirvana. Voiced by Shania Twain, his tongue sings the praises of the cold foam and asks for more. At one point, his tongue even leaves his body entirely, somersaulting into the air as fireworks explode and a crowd cheers.
At the end of the clip, his friend joins in and the tagline reads: “A little foam, a lotta fun.” This ad really left an impression on viewers, according to the over-the-top reactions on social media. “Well, @Coffeemate won the coveted ‘What The F*** Did I Just Watch’ award for Super Bowl Ads,” one X user.
“coffeemate should be fined for that commercial,” another user, and someone else , “this freaky ass coffee mate commercial HELLO?” “Literally lost it laughing at this one😂,” an Instagram user. “Am I entitled to compensation after seeing that Coffee Mate tongue ad?” one X user. “That coffee mate commercial has to be the weirdest commercial so far,” anoter.
“No thank you.” Coffee Mate says all this attention on its unique ad was, of course, the point. “The goal of our first-ever Big Game ad was to get tongues talking — and did we ever!” a Coffee Mate sp.
