Gabri, sister of Xavi Panlilio, who is the husband of Dani Barretto , recently shared her story with the press during a recent private viewing of the music video for her new single “Calm” where she revealed what inspired the song.
“Basically, I based it on personal experiences...
. I grew up with mental issues, growing up insecure. Especially as a woman.
Who would want to be skinny? Come on,” she said. The 26-year-old singer said that she dealt with a lot of bullying and rejection because of her physical appearance, being stout. “ It was terrible.
I have dealt with it since I was probably 12, 10 years old. They would say, you’re fat. You know, petty stuff as a kid.
I also dealt with a lot of rejection. They kept telling me, you’re beautiful but you’re fat. You’re not going to make it anywhere,” she narrated.
When asked how she overcame the bad things people threw at her, Gabri explained that it is still a process that she is currently undergoing. “Honestly, I’m still on the journey of learning how to love myself. It’s really a process.
I mean, there are days I feel good about myself, I’m confident. And there are days I feel so insecure. But at the end of the day, you really have to focus on yourself,” she said.
