Orange on pizza. It’s not what one would expect at an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria, but the newest kid on the East Fremantle block hasn’t totally blacklisted the controversial flavour-of-the-month topping. “Orange on pizza .

.. it’s not something that we would do as the Italian tradition is we don’t use fruits as a pizza topping,” Walter Cioffi, one of the duo behind Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana, told PerthNow.

“However, over the years new exciting recipes have been tested — one that stands out is the arancina with caramelised orange, shaved pecorino cheese, thin shaved red onion and pistachio crumbs. “So this could be a special one month to add a twist to our Italian traditions.” The concept of citrus on pizza divided the internet this month after Bubba Pizza, in Melbourne and Adelaide, revealed it was changing up its Hawaiian offering with a ham and orange pizza.

Settebello’s aim isn’t so much as to shake up traditions but to honour the true tastes of Naples and its time-honoured round pizzas, which are created with soft thin dough and high edges. Two chefs from Naples have even flown to Perth for added authenticity when the pizzeria opens next week. Mr Cioffi is originally from Naples, where his family owns a restaurant in the heart of the city.

He worked there for years with his brothers before moving to Sydney in 2015. His subsequent shift to Perth came with a dream of opening his own pizzeria and in East Fremantle’s Petra Street, next to long.
