Saturday was officially "Ruth Pace Day" in the town of Ridgeway and family, friends and former students gathered at her home to celebrate her 100th birthday. The Town of Ridgeway proclaimed Saturday as "Ruth Pace Day" in honor of Pace's 100th birthday and in recognition of her achievements. Bill Wyatt Pace has lived all of her life in Ridgeway.
She was educated in the Ridgeway Public Schools, the University of Kentucky, the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, and continued her education and music training at the Juilliard School of Music, the Oberlin Conservatory, and the Westminster Choir School. Ruth Pace enjoys some birthday cake on her 100th birthday on Saturday. PHOTO SUBMITTED After studying with many of the more prominent musicians of the time, she put her extensive education and talent to use in what became a career of over 40 years with the Martinsville City Schools, teaching thousands of young people the joys and rewards of music.
A joint resolution was issued by the General Assembly in 1995 honoring Pace and on Saturday, Henry County Board of Supervisors Chair Jim Adams and Martinsville Mayor LC Jones read proclamations from the city and the county honoring Pace. The Town of Ridgeway presented Pace with a special honor, proclaiming Saturday as "Ruth Pace Day" in her hometown. People are also reading.
