In Britain, the day is also known as Mothering Sunday and it takes place on the fourth Sunday of Lent, so it usually falls towards the end of March or beginning of April. It was traditionally a day in which Christians were encouraged to visit their “mother church.” But over the years, the day has become better associated with family get-togethers and children working or living away from home to visit their mothers.
