Just days after the Spring Equinox brought back light to the North Pole, the tourist season was canceled for the seventh year in a row, according to reports . Footage captured by Dave Painter on March 24 shows crews at work at Camp Barneo – the World’s first temporary ice camp in the Arctic Ocean, located just 100 kilometers (62 miles) away from the North Pole – illuminated by the rising sun. “Each spring, adventurers, athletes, and luxury seekers use Barneo as a gateway to the Pole—whether skiing the last degree, running the world’s most extreme marathon, or simply toasting champagne at the top of the world,” Painter told Storyful.
“But for years now, fate has not been kind to these polar dreams.” According to Outside Magazine , geopolitical tensions and the COVID-19 pandemic were responsible for cancellations over the previous years. For 2025, however, no explanation had yet been provided regarding the cancellation of the camp, Painter said.
