Music and instruments can be a big part of a young persons life. It can lead them on so many different adventures and can give them incredible opportunities in the future. Sadly, some don't get the chance to experience that because of their financial background.
But, three High School students from Oakville have created a way to get more people involved in music. Students Jessica Wang and Zheng Wu from White Oaks Secondary school along with Jaime Seoh a student from Iroquois Ridge High School have created Project Apollo with their main goal being to make music more accessible to those who may not be able to afford instruments. "We strive for music accessibility across Canada and we are trying to extend our reach globally as well," said Jamie.
As of right now, the organization provides primarily band instruments such as saxophone, flute, and clarinet to those who wish to join. They also provide musical resources such as books and reeds. String instruments are not provided at this moment but the organization hopes to provide those instruments in the future.
Project Apollo also has scholarship opportunities for musicians within the organization. Currently their scholarships are offered through musical competitions that Project Apollo hopes to host in the future. When a competition is set up, there will be different categories that musicians can participate in.
Through these competitions, there will be an adjudicator present for the performance and they will decide who the top pe.
