Melbourne’s reputation as a global leader in medical research will be further strengthened with the Allan Labor Government announcing the city will host the Global Hepatitis Summit 2027.Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos today announced that Melbourne’s successful bid to host the summit reinforces the city’s reputation as a premier destination for global medical conferences – in a win for local hotels, restaurants and businesses. Secured by the Labor Government through the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) in partnership with the Burnet Institute and the Doherty Institute, the summit is expected to attract almost one thousand attendees from all around the world.
The biennial Global Hepatitis Summit brings together experts and practitioners from around the globe to share the latest developments in liver disease – including viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. It’s also an opportunity for attendees from diverse fields to share knowledge and collaborate on research over four days. The 2027 summit will showcase Melbourne’s globally recognised research facilities and promote Australia as a world-renowned location for hepatitis research – underscoring Victoria’s reputation as a hub of medical research excellence.
