Melbourne is poised for another leap in global medical recognition as the Allan Labor Government confirms the city will host the prestigious Global Hepatitis Summit in 2027.Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, announced the successful bid today, calling it a significant win for Victoria’s medical, hospitality, and tourism sectors. The event is expected to drive business to local hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets.
The summit was secured through a joint effort by the Melbourne Convention Bureau, the Burnet Institute, and the Doherty Institute, under the support of the Labor Government. The international event is anticipated to draw close to 1,000 delegates from across the globe.Held every two years, the Global Hepatitis Summit brings together international leaders and specialists to explore the latest breakthroughs in liver disease, including viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and liver cancer.
Spanning four days, the event will provide a collaborative space for knowledge exchange and cross-disciplinary research.Hosting the 2027 summit will further elevate Melbourne’s status as a powerhouse for medical innovation and showcase Australia’s world-class research facilities in hepatitis and liver health.
