MARANG: A former scammer who once earned RM78,000 within five months has pledged to leave the world of crime after being released under the Ihsan Madani Licensed Prisoner Release Programme (PBSL) in conjunction with Aidilfitri.Mohd Zafran, 23, from Kelantan, expressed regret for deceiving more than 10 individuals through an online scam syndicate before being arrested and serving his sentence at Marang Prison since February.However, he said his experience in prison opened his eyes to change and pursue a lawful income.
"I want to start a new life and repent for the sin of exploiting others, causing total losses exceeding RM78,000 involving more than 10 individuals," he said during an interview at Marang Prison yesterday.According to Mohd Zafran, he initially became involved in the scam syndicate after being enticed by luxurious rewards and offers provided by the syndicate.He said that due to financial difficulties and desperation to find a job while in Kuala Lumpur, he chose to accept the job offer despite being aware of its consequences.
"The syndicate offered the job with an attractive salary."Without much thought, I accepted the offer. Most of my victims were students," he said.
Mohd Zafran expressed gratitude for being among the 62 individuals selected for the Ihsan Madani PBSL programme in conjunction with Aidilfitri."I am thankful for this release and promise not to repeat the same mistakes. I am eager to celebrate Aidilfitri with my beloved family in my hometown," he said.
