The album got its name from the last three lines of the poem “Shhh” by Eileen Myles. Beaudoin has been a fan of the writer and poet for many years. “It just really spoke to getting swept up, and that’s a perfect line,” said Beaudoin.

As Dead Gowns, Beaudoin has been releasing music since 2018 in the form of singles and EPs. “It’s Summer, I Love You, and I’m Surrounded by Snow” is the debut full-length album. It’s also the first time Dead Gowns has released music on vinyl.

The album was arranged and produced by Beaudoin and her fiance Luke Kalloch, who also played baritone/standard guitar, electric bass, background vocals, auxiliary percussion and drum machine. The songs were recorded between 2020 and 2023 in what Beaudoin described as various bedrooms, desacralized churches and old gymnasiums on or near coastal Maine islands, specifically the Burnt Cove Church in Stonington, the Lion’s Club gymnasium on Peaks Island, Beaudoin’s home studio in Brunswick and Prism Analog studio in Portland. On social media, Beaudoin shared a statement about the album: “This is a collection of songs about the nature of wanting, to touch and be touched, to know and be known and to.
