Thursday, March 20, 2025 Air New Zealand and Air India, both esteemed members of the Star Alliance network, have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance air connectivity between India and New Zealand . The MoU was signed during an event in Mumbai, attended by dignitaries including the Honourable Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr. Christopher Luxon.

​ Codeshare Partnership Details The MoU establishes a codeshare agreement covering 16 routes across India, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. This partnership offers travelers increased options and seamless access between the two countries. Passengers can now book flights from Indian cities—Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai—operated by Air India, connecting through hubs like Sydney, Melbourne, or Singapore onto Air New Zealand flights to destinations including Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, and Queenstown.

​ This collaboration not only simplifies booking and travel for passengers but also aims to bolster the visibility of both India and New Zealand as prime tourism destinations.​ Future Plans for Direct Services Beyond the codeshare agreement, the MoU outlines plans to explore the introduction of direct flights between India and New Zealand by the end of 2028. This initiative is contingent upon the delivery of new aircraft and obtaining necessary approvals from relevant government authorities.
