American singer and Grammy award winner has died. The 47-year-old gospel and contemporary artist was found dead in her home at Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday. “At this time, we do not know the cause of death or any further details,” her publicist said in a statement.
“We ask for your prayers for her family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.” Hundley was a contestant on American Idol in 2006, finishing in ninth place. Her first full-length album True Beauty was released the following year.
In 2014, she won a Grammy in the Best Contemporary Christian music category for her record Overcomer. Other albums included Freedom, It’s Christmas, What if We Were Real, Out Of the Dark and Overcomer: The Greatest Hits. One of the American Idol judges from her season, Paula Abdul, called her a “true beacon of light”.
“Her warmth and unwavering kindness towards everyone, even in the face of harsh criticism, was truly unmatched. Not only was she a beautiful person, but she was also a true powerhouse performer,” she told People. “I still think of her taking the stage during American Idol to perform her rendition of Chaka Khan’s ‘I’m Every Woman’ and absolutely brought the house down.
“I’ll always remember her poise, grace and dignity — and how could anyone forget those incomparable vocals! “Wishing her family and those closest to her healing in remembering this radiant woman.” Fellow American Idol alumni Danny Gokey s.
