Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton made a tidy profit of £38million in 2021 when he sold a New York penthouse he had purchased just four years earlier. The former Mercedes driver, who is now racing for Ferrari , won his first world title at the age of 23 in a McLaren car nearly two decades ago and has been addicted to winning ever since. After joining the Silver Arrows , he added six more titles to his name, along with a substantial increase in his wealth.

It is estimated he now earns a £67m salary through his current stint with Scuderia. The luxurious 8,900-square-foot triplex featured five bedrooms and six bathrooms, as well as a 3,400-square-foot private outdoor space. Other highlights included a private internal elevator, a personal library, and a chef's kitchen.

The identity of the buyer, who snapped up the listing that initially opened at a price of £44m in February 2019 – two years before the sale was finalised – was not disclosed. Broker Nick Gavin represented Hamilton and his property, which, according to the New York Post , he never lived in and came with two coveted parking spaces. Said penthouse was just one of many properties in Hamilton 's impressive real estate collection.
