Not only is Taaruk Raina leading his first series as a hero, he got an opportunity to sing on screen as well. The actor plays Kantilal Sahni in Ram Madhvani's period series, The Waking of a Nation, on the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre and its aftermath. Taaruk's character is a lawyer who is part of the Hunter Commission.

The talented actor, who is also a singer-songwriter, talked about the complete 180 degree he had to undertake to render these folk-style songs. He said, "Ram sir, being the genie that he is granting my wishes one step at a time, he gave me that chance as well.
