The Green Dragon at Hardraw is in a “stunning location” overlooking Upper Wensleydale in the national park, but behind it is Hardraw Force. It’s the highest single-drop waterfall in England which has been used in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), starring Kevin Costner. The pub is also situated beneath the rising fells of Great Shunner Fell and isn’t too far from the town of Hawes.

The Green Dragon website adds: “This ancient traditional Dales Inn, dating from 13th century, with flagged floors, open fires, beamed ceilings, and stone walls is a privately owned free house. We sell a range of drinks including locally brewed real ale and gin, along with traditional pub food. There is also accommodation available for the weary traveller.



“The Inn has been lovingly restored ensuring its original features along with contemporary fittings.” As well as free car parking and a beer garden at the rear of the pub, “well-behaved dogs are welcome in the main bar and can stay in a selection of bedrooms and apartments”.
