A seaside village in Northumberland has been named as one of the most relaxing locations to enjoy a staycation in the UK this summer. A study by travel experts at Parkdean Resorts crowned Cresswell as the second-best destination for holidaymakers in need of a chill, coming behind Bigbury-on-Sea in Devon. Located just 40 minutes away from Newcastle by car and best known for its beautiful sandy beach, Cresswell has long been a favourite among dog walkers and families who flock to enjoy the village's scenic views and famous ice cream at Cresswell Ices.

The experts said of Cresswell: "The night sky brightness makes this destination great for stargazing, and with just 952 people per 10km, you'll be escaping the hustle and bustle in Cresswell. Overall, this serene seaside village is a prime relaxation hotspot." There are plenty of places to stay in Cresswell for those looking to book a relaxing summer getaway.

Parkdean Resorts run Cresswell Towers Holiday Park in the village, which this year has scooped a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award having been voted by guests as one of the top camping sites in Northumberland . Guests can choose to stay in caravans or lodges sleeping up to eight, with facilities including a heated indoor pool, a line-up of activities for all ages, and an on-site restaurant and bar. As well as being a stone's throw away from Cresswell Beach, there's also Druridge Bay in all its seven-mile golden glory right next door.
