I quietly slipped from comfy warmth A mission to burglarize the frozen north. My theft of the sun’s gold rays In the frigidness, it is ablaze. Set in the blue sapphire sky For my eyes to stealthily pry Away taken for granted treasures.
Filling my coffer with immeasurable pleasures. To pluck the hydrangea bronzed Inside goes the bloom firmly ensconced. Marvel at diamond dust crystals Sparkling one-of-a-kind jewels Mine to steal and compact into snowball, Stashed away for summer’s recall.
If only I could snatch the winged cardinal ruby , On onyx sunflower seeds depends his beauty. No filch of emerald emerging plant Such a crime only spring can grant. Another thief has ventured out To acorn jewelry vault, the squirrel finds route.
In search of riches, I too am enticed, But be certain, nature is in on this heist! Connie Bogard is a participant in the Southeastern Minnesota Poets Group. ADVERTISEMENT The Post Bulletin publishes poetry by local and area writers every Tuesday. Send poems to life@postbulletin.
