In a statement released through Victoria Police, Heidi's parents Nathan and Liesl said they felt a deep anguish at the loss of their daughter. "Heidi was the most beautiful child who loved to sing," they said. They said her favourite song was "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine", and she had been "shining her light into the lives of her family and the lives of all who met her throughout her three-and-a-half years".
Nathan and Liesl also expressed their "concern for the driver involved in the accident" and said they were "praying she is receiving the love and support she needs". The parents said they had been overcome by support since the tragedy and thanked paramedics and police for showing "incredible compassion". "Since last Friday, the outpouring of love has been beyond description," they said.
They said the family had read the many cards and messages left at the scene of the accident and "treasure[d] each one". The statement said Nathan and Liesl would "be able to go forward with the love and support of their family, friends, church community and their faith in their loving God". On Wednesday police said there was no update to their investigation.
