I'm a local and I won't take Hughes for granted. My background is in financial regulation. I worked for prudential regulator APRA (Australian Prudential Regulation Authority) - my role was to ensure that those looking after other people's money were doing so responsibly.



When I look at the Coalition's plan to spend $600 billion on a nuclear fantasy to supply just 3.7% of Australia's energy needs by 2050, what I see is irresponsible fiscal management. I've lived in Hughes all my life.

I went to local schools, I've worked here, and I started my tertiary education journey here - at the Loftus campus of the University of Wollongong. I now have undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications in economics. The discipline and focus that the Government has put into economic management has meant that under Labor: inflation is down, incomes are growing, unemployment is low, interest rates are falling, and our economy is growing.

And this was done while turning two big Liberal deficits into two Labor surpl.
