Every new year is about new travel trends emerging! This year, a trend which is going viral is: Town-sizing. But what it is the hype all about, let's find out! Travel editor Gabe Saglie, while speaking to Fox Local, explained that this trend is all about visiting small, unpopular destinations and seeking an authentic experience which is deeply rooted in that place's unique culture. The term "town-sizing" has been inspired from the word downsizing.
In the context of travel it means that people are shifting towards small and quiet places for vacation rather than going to crowded cities. And fair enough, everyone needs a break from the city hustle and bustle. The beauty of exploring these small places is that they are nit as widely explored and therefore they tend to hold a cultural value like no place else.
Meanwhile, according to the Luxury Travel Report by Zicasso, which is one of the most high end travel-planning company, the slow and small trips are now stretching to an average duration of about two weeks for luxury travellers - this giving birth to another travel trends - 'Staying Away Longer'. According to Skift Research's 2025 Travel Outlook report, travel companies are anticipating a 24% surge in the number of trips people are planning for the year ahead compared to 2024. And now, these long leisure trips have become the most popular type of travel choice - instead of those weekend getaways and road trips.
The report has deemed 2025 as "the year of long getaways". Get L.
