For many Brits, Friday night is synonymous with tucking into fish and chips. But foodie YouTuber Ed Chapman cautions against getting lured by posh versions of the classic meal. "Just go to a proper chippy," he advised.
"Don't, whatever you do, be tempted by Tom Kerridge's version." In his quest for Britain's priciest eats, Ed sampled offerings at the upscale Harrods venue, Kerridge's Fish and Chips. Tom Kerridge has previously defended his restaurant's lofty prices, attributing them to high-quality ingredients.
He clarified that he doesn't set the prices and suggested that the lavish Harrods food hall location justifies them. Kerridge's site is indeed a far cry from your standard fish and chip shop, nestled as it is within one of the UK's most opulent retail spaces, reports Gloucestershire Live . However, when Ed's order arrived, his initial reaction was underwhelming: "One thing I will say about the fish is the batter doesn't look that crispy," he remarked.
The dish came with eclectic sides including tartare, ketchup, and "pease pudding sauce" as well as eight thick-cut chips. Yet, Ed found little to praise. Concluding his dining experience, he announced, "That was quite possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever had.
" Aside from the staggering price tag, Ed felt the meal was such a letdown he would have considered returning it if he wasn't documenting the tasting for his YouTube channel. "I'm almost speechless at how bad that was," he expressed. "I anticipated it to be poo.
