Nearly 200 people queued for the store opening in Daisy Lane on the new-build Kingsgrove housing estate on Thursday, March 13. The first 50 shoppers through the door received a golden ticket, which guaranteed them a prize, which may have won them anything from a luxury hamper to £100 to spend in-store. Schoolchildren from Wantage got to help open the store by cutting the ribbon alongside their headteacher.

The Midcounties Co-operative food store is now open from 7am to 10pm every day and offers essential grocery items, from fruit and vegetables, fresh meat and flowers to wines, spirits and chilled beer. It also has an in-store bakery and Costa Express machine as well as a range of frozen ready-meals and a selection of hot food to go..
