Being in a new environment - even when on holiday - can be a bit disarming. There are so many things to consider - from communicating in a foreign tongue through to local rules and laws. But one crucial consideration is your safety and security.

Now, in one unusual tip to help guard against crime, tourists have been told to make their bags look grubby in order to prevent being robbed on holiday. Paul Evans, a security expert from I-Spy Detectives , shared a straightforward but effective tip for keeping your valuables safe while travelling this year. He noted that pickpockets don't steal randomly; they pick their targets and often look for easy wins.

Walking around with a designer bag is essentially like carrying a sign that says "rob me" claims the expert. Paul said: "A branded bag or sparkly clean suitcase is a magnet for thieves and suggests that you could be hiding something expensive inside. If criminals see a branded bag or something that looks new they'll assume that it contains valuables like a phone, camera, passport and money.

An old tattered and scruffy bag on the other hand subconsciously suggests that you don't care about the bag or its contents, it suggests that there's nothing inside worth stealing." He said that making your bag appear worn, dirty, or even slightly damaged can greatly reduce the likelihood of being targeted while traveling. Criminals are after the easiest and most profitable opportunities, so they’re more likely to target tourists with high-en.
