This month brought fantastic news for parents in Bolton South and Walkden, and more proof that Labour is delivering on our Plan for Change. Kearsley West and Lever Edge Primary Schools will be among the first schools to offer free, daily, breakfast clubs—supporting families, ensuring children are ready to learn, and helping parents get to work . By taking tough decisions to fix the foundations of our economy at the Budget, we protected key education priorities and tripled investment in breakfast clubs.

This isn’t just about breakfast—it’s about opportunity. Labour’s Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, which I proudly voted for last month, made these clubs a reality. It also capped branded school uniform requirements—saving some families over £500 per child, per year.

This comes alongside Labour’s 30 free hours of early years education from September—showing a government focused on making life easier for working parents. From 1997-2010, the last Labour government cut child poverty by a million, only for it to rise again under the Tories. The new breakfast clubs, opening from April 2025, will transform mornings for families.

Evidence shows they boost children’s progress by an extra two months, while improving attendance, wellbeing, and behaviour. They’ll also save families up to £450 a year and offer vital childcare at the start of the day. It’s shocking that under the Tories, only 1 in 10 primary schools offered this support.

Labour will change tha.
