Of the many things that can trend on social media , hiking is a pretty wholesome activity; one with many physical and mental benefits, especially for Gen Z kids. However, the trend could be causing a spike in emergency call-outs at a certain hiking spot in Wales . Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation has responded to 97 rescue call-outs this year, seven more than the same time last year.

The team said they had been “busy” and received seven call-outs in six days during the recent school holiday . The organisation has responded to “a number of panic attacks” on Tryfan, a 917m mountain in Ogwen Valley, and said new hikers should be more considerate before heading out. “A group were 200m from the summit of Tryfan when one of them had a panic attack and couldn’t move,” the organisation wrote in a post to Facebook on July 21.
