1 2 Patna: They say there are no permanent friends or foes in politics. And it is proving to be true in Bihar as bitter rivals are becoming friends amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Every major political party in the state has stretched out its arms to embrace the arch-rivals in a bid to emerge victorious in the election where the contest looks tough for both the ruling National Democratic Alliance and opposition INDIA bloc.

In the latest development, former JD(U) MP Ranjan Yadav is scheduled to rejoin his childhood friend-turned-arch-rival, RJD chief Lalu Prasad , after a gap of well over two decades. He was about to join the RJD on Wednesday, but the programme was postponed to Thursday. Informed sources said Yadav, who once called the shots in the previous RJD governments headed by Lalu Prasad and wife Rabri Devi, developed differences with his childhood friend, ultimately quitting the party in 2003.



The bitterness touched such a level that Yadav threw his hat in the ring against Lalu during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls from Patliputra seat. Lalu lost by a little over 23,000 votes. During the 2014 LS elections, Yadav jumped into the poll fray from Patliputra seat, turning the contest triangular with Lalu’s daughter Misa Bharati as an RJD candidate and BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav.
