When the couple took on the challenge of managing the site in 2022, they envisioned a space where regional thespians could learn their craft and the community could gather once more. Mr Challis was joined by area manager for Crown Lands Grant Marsden and Albury MP Justin Clancy for the cutting of the red ribbon. Mr Clancy said he was delighted to support the community space.
"I don't feel like Anette and Peter alone could have achieve this project," he said. "I also don't believe the community chest could achieve it without the support of others. "But if we look at each on their own we may not achieve what we set out to do, but doing it together is what makes it important and special.
" The Albury West Memorial Hall building was moved on the back of trucks from Bandiana in 1946 to ensure locals had access to a community hall. The building was used as both a recreational space and a venue to commemorate five soldiers from the area who died during World War II. Mr Challis said his wife, who died from cancer in 2024, would be "very proud of what the community had achieved".
