Rourkela : A 60-year-old man from Sundargarh district , was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life on Wednesday by additional sessions judge , Sundargarh, for hacking his son to death with an axe three years ago. The accused Karmu Miri was residing with his family in Rungaon Badpada under Bargaon police limit in Sundargarh district.Karmu’s son Shyam Sundar (18) fractured his leg for which he was not working and was allegedly asking for money.
On January 1, 2021, around 1 pm, while Shyam was sleeping, Karmu hit him with an axe repeatedly. The victim died on spot. Shyam’s mother, Lilabati, lodged a complaint in Bargaon police station against her husband.
Bargaon police registered case and arrested Karmu on January 2, 2021. Police seized the axe from him and he was sent to jail . Pronouncing the judgment in the case on Wednesday, additional sessions judge, Sundargarh, examined 14 witnesses and sentenced Karmu to rigorous imprisonment for life and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
