Thursday, May 9, 2024 Ryanair , Europe’s leading airline, announced today (Thursday, May 9th) that it is extending its partnership with Trinity College Dublin (TCD) until the end of this decade, with an additional donation of €2.5 million, bringing the total contribution to €4 million. This funding supports the Ryanair Sustainable Aviation Research Centre, which was originally established with a €1.

5 million donation from Ryanair in September 2021 to tackle the intricate challenge of sustainable aviation. With the continued support, the multi-disciplinary research team at the Centre will persist in their focus on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and zero-carbon aircraft propulsion systems. The team will also broaden their research to include the effects of aviation on non-CO2 emissions.



In the last three years, the Ryanair Sustainable Aviation Research Centre has achieved significant advancements in several key areas: Research findings presented to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency have demonstrated that emissions from a passenger flying a Boeing 737-800 NG from Amsterdam to Dublin can be reduced by 43% by using a 50% SAF blend. Further reductions are possible with Ryanair’s newer, 16% more fuel-efficient ‘Gamechanger’ Boeing 737-8200 compared to the 737-800 NG.
