Thursday, May 9, 2024 P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Encounter demonstrated its commitment to maritime safety when it responded to a distress call off the coast of New Caledonia on Saturday, May 4th. With around 3,000 guests on board, the vessel promptly altered its course to assist the stranded sailors. The distressed sailors, comprising two men and a woman, were en route from Queensland to Noumea when their yacht encountered a catastrophic failure—a broken mast and subsequent power loss.

Adrift at sea for three days, the trio, hailing from New Caledonia, faced a perilous situation until the timely intervention of P&O’s crew. Thankfully, the stranded sailors were found to be in good health upon being rescued and evaluated by the ship’s medical team. With the successful completion of the rescue operation, Pacific Encounter resumed its scheduled voyage to Noumea, ensuring the safety and well-being of both its passengers and those in need at sea.
