Doha: Al Wasmiyah Farm’s Maraseem, ridden by Jefferson Smith, displayed remarkable grit and determination to claim victory in the Ebraz Cup for Thoroughbreds, securing the prestigious QA-Gr2 title at Al Uqda Racecourse yesterday.
It was a closely contested finale on the H H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy Day featuring nine races as Maraseem, trained by Georges Mikhalides, edged Bolthole by a quarter of a length in the 2100m race to seal the major crown.
Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) Chairman and President of Asian Equestrian Federation Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiya honoured the winners.
QREC Acting CEO Bader Mohammed Al Darwish crowned the winners of H H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy.
The victory completed a double for the owner, trainer and jockey as Kadovar had earlier landed the Ebraz Thoroughbred Handicap Cup 70-90 title.
Meanwhile, Ray’q clinched the H H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy after beating stablemate Aneed Al Shahania by a head difference following a thrilling battle in another major contest on the day – the Local Purebred Arabian (Class 1). With a determined effort from jockey Olivier d’Andigne, Ray’q, owned by H E Sheikha Reem bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani narrowly held on to win by jus.
