Ranchi: JMM on Wednesday claimed that the decision about expulsion of its Bishunpur MLA Chamra Linda can be taken by the leader of its legislative party and not the party leaders. The party had suspended Linda on Tuesday for defying party lines and filing nominations for the Lohardaga (ST) Lok Sabha against the INDIA bloc candidate Sukhdeo Bhagat. Its decision raised eyebrows and JMM was criticised for its inability to act tough on Linda along the lines of its former Kolebira MLA Basant Kumar Longa, who was expelled from the party for six years for filing nomination as an independent candidate in Khunti (ST) Lok Sabha seat.

“There is a difference between Longa and Linda’s case. Longa is not a sitting MLA and therefore comes under the purview of the party. Whereas Linda is a sitting MLA and the decision of expelling him can only be taken by the legislative party when it meets next,” JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said.

CM Champai Soren is the leader of the 29-member JMM legislative party. The JMM also hinted that it will act against another rebel MLA from Borio, Lobin Hembrom, after the nomination window for the Rajmahal (ST) Lok Sabha seat is closed. Miffed over JMM’s decision to field its incumbent Rajmahal MP Vijay Kumar Hansdak for the third consecutive term, Hembrom filed his nominations as an independent on Tuesday.

JMM, which is part of the Congress-led INDIA bloc, hailed the success of Rahul Gandhi’s election rallies in Chaibasa and Gumla on Tuesd.
