A VETERINARY assistant has offered her insight into the types of dogs she would never own. She's distilled her list to 19 pets and the reasons are varied. But it might help new dog owners decide which breeds suit them best.

She said one small canine was cute, but the baying was constant. This lady has done her time in the surgery and her selection is borne from that experience. "When I first started in vet med I had such a long list of dog breeds I liked.



Now that list is very short," she said in her comment on Reddit . She loved them but would never own one. "They are cute but the constant baying.

I would only own one as a hunting dog," she said. Beagles are high energy and, if let off the lead, will revert to type and chase scents with great enthusiasm, infuriating owners. This breed has enjoyed huge popularity in recent years, but it is plagued with health problems, most particularly breathing issues.

Sadly, many of the breed’s characterful features, do create problems for these lovable mutts. Their flat faces, folds of skin, and noisy breathing cause them major welfare issues. They look fluffy and adorable, but Chow Chows are not the most social of dogs and can be aggressive.

Therefore, early socialization to other dogs, pets and people is advised. These exotic-looking dogs are loyal and protective. But their sheer physical appearance causes them health issues.
