CADILLAC — Three candidates from Ward 2 and five from Ward 4 have submitted applications to serve on the Cadillac City Council. Council seats opened up after Tiyi Schippers, who represented Ward 2, was appointed mayor by a 3-1 vote at the last city council meeting. Her appointment to mayor at large left her ward seat open.

Following the vote, Ward 4 representative Stephen King stepped down, putting his seat up for grabs. In Ward 2, candidates are Tony Lofton, Scott Weisheim and Scott Hopkins. In Ward 4, candidates are Carla Moore, Ruthann French, David Powell, Zachary Brown and Charles Kennard.



Mayor Tiyi Schippers and council members Robert Engels and Bryan Elenbaas will choose one candidate from each ward on Monday to serve on council until the November general election. Candidates were asked to fill out a questionnaire to provide council information about their experience, goals and motivations. The following are the seven questions that were asked, along with each candidate’s response.
