Ludhiana: The civic body has kicked off fogging in the city with 12 big machines in proactive measures to combat dengue mosquito breeding in vulnerable areas. The order to carry out fogging in the city was issued by the deputy commissioner when three cases of dengue were reported in Khanna last month. The officials said they are being “pressurised” to intensify the drive with the help of 95 small machines although the drive is not “needed to be carried out in this hot weather”.

As per the MC officials, while carrying out fogging in the city with big machines is feasible, it is a difficult task to intensify the drive and use the small machines for the purpose as well, especially during the summer season when the weather is too hot for the larvae to survive. Usually, the fogging drive in the city begins at the end of June or beginning of July before the onset of the monsoon season. The officials added that they were also concerned that the drive would be disrupted by elected representatives wanting to get photos clicked with the small fogging machines.



The 95 small machines used to be councillors for narrow lanes of the wards as fogging with large machines was not possible in these lanes and congested areas.
