Rome: Dario Vitale has been appointed as the new creative director of Versace, marking a historic transition for the iconic Italian luxury brand. The announcement comes as Donatella Versace steps down from the role after nearly three decades at the helm, assuming a new position as the brand’s chief ambassador. Born in 1983 near Naples, Italy, Vitale studied fashion design at Milan’s Istituto Marangoni and graduated in 2006.
He started his career at Dsquared2 before moving to Bottega Veneta, where he worked under Tomas Maier. In 2010, he joined Miu Miu, a subsidiary of Prada Group, and steadily climbed the ranks to become the brand’s design director for ready-to-wear and later its head of image. Vitale played a key role in Miu Miu’s transformation, overseeing a period of explosive growth that saw the brand’s sales surge by 93% in 2024.
His innovative approach, blending structured tailoring with playful femininity, made Miu Miu one of the most in-demand fashion labels. His influence was reflected in Lyst’s rankings, where the brand consistently topped the charts for the hottest luxury labels. Upon his appointment as Versace’s new creative director, Vitale expressed his gratitude to Donatella for entrusting him with the brand’s future.
“I want to express my sincere thank you to Donatella for her trust in me, and for her tireless dedication to the extraordinary brand that Versace is today,” he shared on Instagram. “It is a privilege to contribute to the futu.
