Patna : A man was conned of Rs 20 ,000 by a cybercriminal posing as a police officer from the Hyderabad crime branch. The fraudster, demanding Rs 50,000 from the man to drop case against his son, threatened to send him (son) to jail in Hyderabad. Out of fear and desperation, Manoj Narayan, a resident of New Tarachak in Danapur on Tuesday, transferred Rs 20,000 to the cybercriminal.

Later, realising that he had been deceived, Narayan filed a complaint at the police station on Wednesday. According to the complainant, Narayan’s wife received a call on her cellphone on May 7 from the cyber fraud. The caller, claiming himself to be an officer of the Hyderabad crime branch, claimed that her son had been taken into custody in connection with a rape case in Bengaluru.



The cybercriminal asked her to send money immediately to free her son from the case. On hearing this, she got scared and tried to reach her son, but failed.
