Kolkata: A girl has scored 89% in ISC after battling numerous medical complications , including three brain surgeries , partial paralysis and memory loss over the past nearly four years. On Oct 23, 2020, Jancy Joseph , a student of St Thomas Girls’ School Kidderpore , suddenly collapsed. She was rushed to the Institute of Neuro Sciences where she was diagnosed with a near fatal brain aneurysm.

Her brain had a 75% blood clot. As a resultshe was paralysed on the right side. After a brain surgery on Oct 24 she took three days to revive.



She went through a partial embolization of the AVM on Nov 9. On Nov 13 Jancy underwent her second brain surgery. She was back in emergency after suffering an attack of meningitis on Nov 21.

She was so critical that doctors felt that she had slim chances of survival. Doctors placed a right frontal ommaya reservoir in the brain as a last resort. Fate and prayers made the entire process a success.

The next 52 day were spent in the ICU. She was discharged and shifted into a mini hospital at home. She was on Ryles’ tube, totally bedridden and could not recognise anyone or the objects in her room.

On Feb 8, 2021, Jancy was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and craniectomy defect in the left posterior frontal brain for which she has to go for a third surgery. It was unimaginable then to even think that Jancy would go to class XI. But her grit and determination got her back on her feet.
